The big Garage door openers review – 2020

So, you need a new garage door opener. Which one will it be?

New technologies allow for many cool and needed features for garage door openers. The major manufacturers are embracing them and releases new garage door opener models all the time.

With build-in Wi-Fi for smart connectivity and belt drive for extra quite operations, the choices are almost endless, and many find it confusing to choose the right option for them.

There are many garage door opener makers but not many offer the latest technologies. Today we’ll focus on the US based companies which offers the best garage door openers supporting the latest technologies.

We tested and checked for a few important features the garage door opener should hold:

  • Belt drive – unlike chain drives, these are more durable and quite to operate.

  • Wi-Fi – allows smart connectivity and other smart features.

  • Backup battery – a very important feature allowing you to operate the garage door in case of power failure or other emergencies.

  • Durability – if you install a new garage door opener then make sure it lasts if possible

  • Warranty – we made sure that we list only companies that offer decent warranty.

  • Safety sensors – California law requires these for safety reasons.

So, with all that in mind we set off to test all garage door opener companies and list here the best each one has to offer. All garage door openers here will work with most overhead garage door you already have installed. Although relativity easy to install, garage door openers should be installed by trained and licensed professionals.

Also, California law requires you to install safety measures such as a motion detection sensor which prevents the garage door to accidently close when someone is near.

Final words

Until recently, finding all these features in a garage door opener was not easy. As of now (July 2020) there are still not many manufacturers that uses Wi-Fi to control the opening and closing of the garage door. The old way of what is known as Rolling-Code remotes uses old technologies which are limited and relatively easy to hack.

Although for these models you will need a Wi-Fi signal, most homes already have it and if your signal is not strong enough, then range extenders are available.
